Visiting Scholars Programme

The Centre for Global Epilepsy’s Visiting Scholars Programme brings clinicians and researchers from resource-limited settings to Oxford for 6-8 weeks of training, collaboration and hands-on experience in global epilepsy research and care.

The programme aims to develop a diverse community of researchers with the skills, experience and networks to create lasting impact in epilepsy research and care in their home countries.

What does the programme offer?

Visiting Scholars will:

  • Develop specific research and professional skills through an immersive placement at the Centre for Global Epilepsy, University of Oxford.
  • Work collaboratively with researchers and clinicians in Oxford and build international networks.
  • Undertake an optional adjunct placement in an area outside their host department, providing an opportunity to gain experience and perspectives from another discipline or organisation.
  • Share their work and insights with the Oxford community through a public lecture or talk.
  • Receive virtual mentorship following the Oxford placement to support research outputs and further development.
  • Return home equipped to apply their learning and contribute to capacity strengthening in their own country.

Adjunct placements may span a range of disciplines and settings, including medical history, social anthropology, public health, literature, economics, pharmacology and industry.

Who can apply?

The programme is intended for clinicians and researchers from resource-limited settings with a clear interest in developing their skills and contributing to epilepsy research and care in their home country.

Applicants should have a clear area of work or research that they wish to develop during their time in Oxford and identify a proposed Oxford supervisor and a mentor in their home institution.
